Former Canadian Pork Council CEO to lead national advocacy organization effective Sept. 8.
OTTAWA, ON – The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) has appointed Stephen Heckbert as its new Executive Director, effective Sept. 8. Stephen brings more than 25 years of experience as a bilingual enterprise and communications leader across a variety of sectors, including agriculture, having most recently served as CEO of the Canadian Pork Council.
His appointment comes as FVGC continues to advocate on behalf of Canada’s fresh produce sector in an unpredictable geo-political landscape, emphasizing the critical role of fruit and vegetable growers in maintaining domestic food security and driving regional economies. Stephen’s leadership will focus on building on the momentum established during the association’s recent period of transition and revival.
“Since 1922, FVGC has been an important voice in advocating for growers across the country who produce more than 120 different commodities. Rising costs and trade uncertainty are creating huge challenges for Canada’s fruit and vegetable sector,” said Marcus Janzen, President of the FVGC Board of Directors. “Stephen’s proven track record in advocacy, effective communications and enterprise leadership make him well prepared to advance our critical work.”
Marcus thanked Carla for her work during the transition, and both he and Stephen look forward to her ongoing engagement with FVGC.
