Ken Forth, a broccoli farmer from the Hamilton area and Chair of the Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC)’s Trade and Marketing Committee, will soon be receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Guelph.

According to Franco J. Vaccarino, President and Vice-Chancellor of the university, “Mr. Forth is being recognized for his extraordinary contributions to the Canadian agricultural industry, his role in government policy development, particularly the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program, his contributions to many boards, and his involvement in his local farming community. Mr. Forth’s accomplishments demonstrate a lifetime of extraordinary achievements and a standard of excellence that are truly deserving of the university’s recognition.”

In 2013, Ken was among two Ontarians who was awarded the prestigious Badge of Honour for Long and Faithful Service by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, receiving the recognition for his long and dedicated service to the Farm Work Programme.

In addition to his role at CHC, Ken is also president of the Foreign Agricultural Resource Management Service (FARMS) and Chair of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s Labour Issues Co-ordinating Committee. He is also a Past President of CHC as well as of the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association.

Congratulations, Ken, on such a well-deserved honour!
