Canadian Horticultural Council welcomes Canada’s newly-elected Parliament

October 25, 2019

The Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC) would like to congratulate Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and all returning and newly-elected Members of Parliament following the 2019 Election. CHC looks forward to working with the Liberal minority government and all Members of Parliament on our top priorities in support of fruit and vegetable growers across the country, including:

  • Financial protection for produce sellers
  • Crop protection
  • Labour
  • The need for Canadian data
  • Business risk management
  • Carbon pricing
  • International trade

Our sector’s strong contribution to Canada’s economy—$17.4B in real GDP and 249,000 jobs in 2017 (2019 RIAS Report)—cannot be understated. Nevertheless, farmers continue to face regulatory burdens, and as a result, it is essential that farmers’ voices are heard, understood and acted upon in collaboration with policy- and decision-makers.

CHC would like to extend its thanks to all the candidates who entered the race in Canada’s 43rd election. We look forward to getting to work as soon as possible with Canada’s newly-elected Parliament.
