Ottawa, ON – Last week, the Canadian Potato Council (CPC), a national working group under the Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC), was in Ottawa to meet with key decision-makers and advocate for the future of Canada’s potato sector.
The CPC held a productive meeting with the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and Paul MacKinnon, President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Discussions focused on strengthening cross-border trade, particularly with the United States, and the importance of science-based regulatory decisions at CFIA that also reflect the economic realities facing farm businesses.
In addition to the meeting with the Minister, the CPC also met with Members of Parliament and Senators to discuss trade diversification, labour, and the role of agriculture in Canada’s economic and food security.
FVGC thanks all those who took the time to meet with us and for their continued collaboration on the issues that matter most to Canadian potato growers.
