Legislation was passed in the Senate on Thursday, October 25, 2018, to clear the path for Canada to be among the first six countries to ratify the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which will govern trade across 11 countries.
The Canadian Horticultural Council is very pleased to see this legislation passed, as the Asia-Pacific market is a key opportunity for the Canadian fresh produce industry. CHC took every opportunity to emphasize to the government the need to broaden market opportunities, including recommending the signing of the CPTPP as soon as possible.
We are confident that this agreement will help achieve the Canadian government’s agri-food export goal of $75 billion by 2025.
