OTTAWA<\/strong> \u2013 The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) today congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their election victory. \u00a0
FVGC welcomed the Government\u2019s election commitments to repairing agricultural safety nets and ensuring that a food security lens is applied to the work of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).<\/p>\n

FVGC has long advocated for the application of a food lens across government policy \u2014 a critical step toward ensuring a sustainable, competitive, and resilient fruit and vegetable sector in Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis election was forged by exceptional circumstances that stoked Canadians’ sense of national resolve,\u201d said Massimo Bergamini, Executive Director of FVGC. \u201cIt is with that same sense of resolve that Canada\u2019s fruit and vegetable growers today say that they look forward to working with Prime Minister Carney and his government and with all parliamentarians to make our agricultural sector more resilient and Canada\u2019s food supply, more secure.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Without a strong fruit and vegetable sector, there can be no real food security in Canada,” said Bergamini. “We cannot afford to take Canadian-grown food for granted. FVGC is ready to work with the new government to make sure that all policy decisions strengthen \u2014 not weaken \u2014 our domestic food supply.”<\/p>\n
