Currently, hundreds of sector-specific CFIA fees are in place, which creates complexity and inconsistencies in how fees are calculated. In addition, most of the CFIA\u2019s fees have not changed since the organization was created almost 20 years ago, but the cost of delivering services has increased with inflation and other factors.<\/p>\n<p>To advance the cost recovery initiative, the\u00a0CFIA\u00a0is undertaking a two-phased consultation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase one:<\/strong>\u00a0From January 26 to March 31, 2017, the\u00a0CFIA\u00a0is seeking your input on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a proposed list of services that allows fees to be charged consistently for similar\u00a0CFIA\u00a0services<\/li>\n<li>proposed service standards for\u00a0CFIA\u00a0services<\/li>\n<li>the appropriate level of cost sharing between regulated parties and taxpayers<\/li>\n<li>impacts of potential fee increases on businesses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Phase two:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0CFIA\u00a0will provide stakeholders with a summary of feedback received during phase one consultations and specific fee proposals for each service.<\/p>\n<p>To participate in the consultation, see the CFIA\u2019s cost recovery consultation page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC) requests that all growers and member associations copy <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:admin@hortcouncil.ca\"><strong>admin@hortcouncil.ca<\/strong><\/a><strong> on their responses to CFIA, so that we may submit a consolidated industry response on behalf of all Canadian fruit and vegetable sectors.<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)\u00a0is proposing to streamline and update its cost recovery program.
