{"id":32493,"date":"2021-11-04T17:13:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T21:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hortcouncil.ca\/?p=32493"},"modified":"2021-11-04T17:13:00","modified_gmt":"2021-11-04T21:13:00","slug":"joint-statement-from-north-americas-fresh-produce-industry-on-supply-chain-disruptions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fvgc.ca\/fr\/2021\/11\/04\/joint-statement-from-north-americas-fresh-produce-industry-on-supply-chain-disruptions\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint Statement from North America\u2019s Fresh Produce Industry on Supply Chain Disruptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>November 4, 2021<\/strong> &#8211; On behalf of North America&#8217;s fresh produce industry, national and regional associations have released a joint statement calling for urgent government action to address significant ongoing supply chain disruptionsimpacting our food systems, economies, and ultimately individuals and families across the continent and worldwide.&nbsp; Produce challenges are amplified by the perishable nature of fresh fruits and vegetables and the very real potential that increased food insecurity could result from a failure to address the disruptions noted below.The signatories noted:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>Crippling port congestion <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Delays and exploding costs in container shipping <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Cascading effects of inconsistent product delivery <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Continuing labour shortages <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Growing input shortages <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Stockpiling of product by consumers<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>The Joint Statement will form the basis for advocacy and outreach to address disruptions and has already been submitted to the U.S. House Agriculture Committee hearing on <em>The Immediate Challenges to our Nation&#8217;s Food Supply Chain<\/em>.&nbsp; In Canada it was submitted to the Federal\/Provincial\/Territorial Agriculture first ministers meeting scheduled for November 8 &#8211; 10.
