{"id":2989,"date":"2016-04-21T08:55:51","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T12:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hortcouncil.ca\/?p=2989"},"modified":"2016-04-21T08:55:51","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T12:55:51","slug":"biosecurity-standard-for-the-greenhouse-nursery-and-floriculture-industries-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fvgc.ca\/fr\/2016\/04\/21\/biosecurity-standard-for-the-greenhouse-nursery-and-floriculture-industries-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Biosecurity Standard for the Greenhouse, Nursery and Floriculture Industries now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), in conjunction with\u00a0Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and industry organizations, such as the\u00a0Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC), has completed a new voluntary biosecurity\u00a0standard to help protect Canada\u2019s greenhouse, nursery and floriculture sectors\u00a0from plant pests.<\/p>\n<p>This voluntary standard will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide\u00a0guidelines for biosecurity, including prevention and integrated pest\u00a0management;<\/li>\n<li>promote\u00a0a consistent approach for managing risks of plant pests;<\/li>\n<li>improve\u00a0the greenhouse, nursery and floriculture sector\u2019s knowledge of the risks\u00a0associated with plant pests; and<\/li>\n<li>help\u00a0identify gaps in current biosecurity procedures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CHC on behalf of Canadian greenhouse producers approves the National\u00a0Farm-Level Biosecurity Standard for the Greenhouse, Nursery and Floriculture\u00a0Industries. The CHC, through representation on the Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture\u00a0Biosecurity Advisory Committee, has contributed significantly to the Canadian\u00a0Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) initiative to develop a voluntary National\u00a0Farm-Level Biosecurity Standard for the Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture\u00a0Industries. We were joined in this effort by representatives from across Canada\u00a0and from grower groups, provincial government and\u00a0academics alike.<\/p>\n<p>The CHC wishes to express our sincerest appreciation and thanks to the\u00a0CFIA staff dedicated to\u00a0this initiative as well as all other members of the Advisory Committee\u00a0who worked diligently to\u00a0accomplish the Standard.
