{"id":2984,"date":"2016-04-21T09:51:21","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T13:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hortcouncil.ca\/?p=2984"},"modified":"2016-04-21T09:51:21","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T13:51:21","slug":"biosecurity-standard-for-the-fruit-and-tree-nut-industry-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fvgc.ca\/fr\/2016\/04\/21\/biosecurity-standard-for-the-fruit-and-tree-nut-industry-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Biosecurity standard for the fruit and tree nut industry now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CanadianFood Inspection Agency (CFIA), in collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food\u00a0Canada and partner organizations, such as the Canadian Horticultural Council\u00a0(CHC), has developed a new voluntary biosecurity standard that will help\u00a0protect Canada\u2019s fruit and tree nut industry from plant pests and diseases.<\/p>\n<p>The standard for the fruit tree and nut industry:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide guidelines for\u00a0biosecurity, including prevention and integrated pest management;<\/li>\n<li>promote a consistent\u00a0approach across the country for mitigating the risks with clear guidelines\u00a0for effective biosecurity;<\/li>\n<li>enhance industry\u2019s\u00a0knowledge of the risks associated with pests and diseases; and<\/li>\n<li>help identify potential\u00a0gaps in current biosecurity measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CHC on behalf\u00a0of Canadian greenhouse producers approves the National Farm-Level Biosecurity\u00a0Standard for the Greenhouse, Nursery and Floriculture Industries. The CHC,\u00a0through representation on the Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture Biosecurity\u00a0Advisory Committee, has contributed significantly to the Canadian Food\u00a0Inspection Agency (CFIA) initiative to develop a voluntary National Farm-Level\u00a0Biosecurity Standard for the Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture Industries. We\u00a0were joined in this effort by representatives from across Canada and from\u00a0grower groups, provincial government and academics alike.<\/p>\n<p>The CHC wishes to\u00a0express our sincerest appreciation and thanks to the CFIA staff dedicated to this\u00a0initiative as well as all other members of the Advisory Committee who worked\u00a0diligently to accomplish the Standard.
