This report has been prepared by Samuel Gauthier.<\/p>\n<p>The report provides a comprehensive statistical overview of the\u00a0vegetable industry statistics. It contains tables and charts about Canadian\u00a0vegetable production, farm gate value, new vegetable\u00a0products,\u00a0consumption, trade statistics as well as world production of vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>Some highlights from the report are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ontario is the largest producer of field vegetables. In 2014, it\u00a0accounted for 52% of Canada\u2019s total production, followed by Quebec with 34%.<\/li>\n<li>While Canada\u2019s total production of field vegetables increased\u00a0slightly from 2013 (2.9%), farm gate value (FGV) grew by approximately $107\u00a0million (12.7%), reaching a five-year high of $946 million in 2014.<\/li>\n<li>In 2014, Canada\u2019s greenhouse sector, which is comprised of\u00a0tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and lettuce, saw a slight increase of 1% in\u00a0production from 2013. The majority of production is centered in Ontario (71%)\u00a0and British Columbia (21%).<\/li>\n<li>Total Canadian vegetable (field vegetables, greenhouse vegetables\u00a0and mushrooms) exports in 2014 rose to just under $1.33 billion in 2014, of which\u00a097% ($1.30 billion) were exported to the United States.<\/li>\n<li>Canada imported $2.93 billion worth of vegetables in 2014, with the\u00a0majority ($1.85 billion \u2013 62.1%) of total vegetable imports arriving from the\u00a0United States.
