Historically, the\nmost vital marine port in all of Canada is the Vancouver port, accounting for\n57% of the marine containers entering into Canada each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a growing\nmajority of Canada\u2019s goods entering into the marine ports of Vancouver each\nyear, the marine ports of Vancouver have struggled. \u201cThe CBSA risk assesses\n100% of all marine containers in order to identify potentially high-risk\nshipments. The vast majority of marine container shipments are processed and\nauthorized by the CBSA to enter Canada without delay. However, a small\npercentage of containers are selected by the CBSA for examination. Now with the\nTCEF they will have the opportunity to take advantage of state-of-the-art\ntechnology to facilitate the examination process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus of the\nnew facility is to increase the capacity for potential examinations arriving to\nthe marine ports of Vancouver. This will allow for improved security on goods\nshipped into Canada via Vancouver\u2019s marine ports. The new facility will allow\nCBSA officers to conduct complete offload examinations of marine containers. It\nwill also serve as a general-purpose warehouse facility for incoming goods that\nmay not have a home when they arrive at the port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the great\nbenefits from the new facility is the focus on efficiency. This, in theory,\nwill allow for the supply chain of goods flowing into Canada to enter into the\nCanadian market faster. Less time for people waiting for brand new, top of the\nline goods, entering into Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBSA is looking to\nprovide smart, secure and efficient borders. The TCEF will help them identify\nsecurity risks, as well as, address previous gaps in security. The new facility\nalso brings along new technology, so CBSA officers can spend more time\ncompleting risk-based compliance to identify and scrutinize cargo with\nunknown-risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another ancillary\nbenefit of the TCEF is the increase in business coming to the city of\nTsawwassen, BC. Now many businesses and companies are targeting the location to\nimprove their supply chain.
