{"id":2796,"date":"2016-10-02T13:01:39","date_gmt":"2016-10-02T17:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hortcouncil.ca\/?p=2796"},"modified":"2016-10-02T13:01:39","modified_gmt":"2016-10-02T17:01:39","slug":"report-from-the-united-fresh-washington-conference-september-12-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fvgc.ca\/fr\/2016\/10\/02\/report-from-the-united-fresh-washington-conference-september-12-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Report from the United Fresh Washington Conference (September 12-14)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In preparation for the March on Capitol Hill, close to 500 representatives of the fresh produce sector\u00a0held discussions on the changes needed in the current regulatory p<span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">rograms in support of a legal and\u00a0viable wor<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">kforce, the possib<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">le impact of t<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">ra<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\"><br \/>\nagreements being negotiated (TPP and with the European\u00a0Union), and the need to continue offering fresh fruits and vegetables in school meals. United Fresh is\u00a0the US counterpart of CHC. CHC President Keith Kuhl and Executive Director Rebecca Lee attended this\u00a0conference which provided ideas and preparation<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">\u00a0for<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">\u00a0our own Fall Harvest event in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s messages conveyed to House Representatives and Senators during the March on Capitol Hill\u00a0were:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Child nutrition reauthorization: pass the Senate Agriculture Committee Child Nutrition bill that\u00a0keeps the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program \u201dFresh\u201d and protects the half cup of fruits and\u00a0vegetables in school meals<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Immigration: Comprehensive immigration reform is still needed; stoppages in the federal\u00a0agricultural guest worker program, H2A, cannot be tolerated anymore!<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Trade:\u00a0Pass the TPP to bring trade opportunities to the fresh produce industry.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In preparation for the March on Capitol Hill, close to 500 representatives of the fresh produce sector\u00a0held discussions on the changes needed in the current regulatory programs in support of a legal and\u00a0viable workforce, the possible impact of trade\u00a0 agreements being negotiated (TPP and with the European\u00a0Union), and the need to continue offering fresh fruits [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":2800,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2796","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
